Injecting new clarity into your molded packaging

Injection molders have extensive experience making food packaging products out of polypropylene (PP) resin. The material offers many advantages but also has traditionally lacked the clarity desired for many such applications. Milliken can help you to get rid of the milky appearance long associated with PP containers.

By using polypropylene clarified with Milliken’s Millad® NX™ 8000, they now can injection mold packaging with glass-like clarity, that also is lighter weight, fully recyclable, heat resistant and more sustainable.

Injection molders can process the resulting material, NX™ UltraClear PP, at significantly lower temperatures of just 190°C to 200°C, up to 40°C less than required with traditional clarifiers, and with similar or even better optical results. These cooler temperatures reduce energy use and can lower the associated carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 8-12% when compared with traditionally clarified PP.

Polypropylene also requires significantly lower energy inputs than competitive materials during granulate production, and has high energy recovery values –which contributes to an overall lower carbon footprint.

The low density of NX™ UltraClear PP vs. competitive food packaging resins also means molders can produce more parts per kilo of material.
