Making Polypropylene Faster at K 2016
At K 2016, October 19-26, Milliken will share with attending polypropylene (PP) producers, compounders and converters how its clarifiers and nucleators are giving PP a performance and processing edge in addressing key segment trends and requirements. Milliken's performance additives feature unique properties that not only improve part quality, but can also speed up manufacturing processes.
In the injection molding process, PP clarified with Milliken's Millad® NX™ 8000 can be processed at lower temperatures when compared to conventional clarifiers, allowing for shorter cooling times, which speeds up overall production and promotes more energy-efficient operations. In addition, the excellent solubility of Millad NX 8000 in PP with a high melt flow rate (MFR) makes it ideal for meeting the growing demand for high MFR grades to support faster production.
Milliken's Hyperform® HPN nucleators achieve a balanced orientation of crystal structures in PP that is proven to give excellent dimensional stability and reduced warpage/shrinkage behavior to PP even in highly demanding applications. The combination of these advantages allows converters to achieve higher productivity, cost savings, and improved end-product performance. Converters report a decreased cycle time of 10-15% during production when replacing resins nucleated with a conventional nucleating agent. Hyperform HPN has easy dispersion which follows the trend for high MFR reactor grade homo and impact copolymers.
