Carmel Olefins & L.K. Machinery at K 2016 to showcase Carmel’s new Milliken-clarified PP resin

Israeli resin producer Carmel Olefins Ltd. (part of the BAZAN Group) will demonstrate its new polypropylene grade Capilene® CT 80A at K 2016 in Düsseldorf, via a joint agreement with L.K. Machinery International Ltd. and specialty chemicals supplier Milliken & Co.

Israeli resin producer Carmel Olefins Ltd. (part of the BAZAN Group) will demonstrate its new polypropylene grade Capilene® CT 80A at K 2016 in Düsseldorf, via a joint agreement with L.K. Machinery International Ltd. and specialty chemicals supplier Milliken & Co.

On stand C43 in Hall 13, Hong Kong-based L.K. Machinery will be running its new FORZA-III PT 450 two-platen injection molding machine to make 20-liter pails using Capilene CT 80A. That resin is the first in a new series of specialty PP copolymers that Carmel is developing based on Milliken’s Millad® NX™ 8000 clarifier technology. The third-generation Forza press making the pails is fully automated, with
an 18-second cycle time that makes it ideal for in-mold labeling (IML) and packaging applications. This will be the machine’s European debut.

Carmel’s new Capilene® CT 80A resin combines good impact performance with high transparency, high gloss, and no stress whitening. It achieves these properties by combining the typical advantages of standard polypropylene random and heterophasic copolymers, and retains them even at 0°C, which is important for fridge storage applications. The resin is ideal for thin-wall and clear food-packaging containers, caps and closures, and pails, as well as for larger containers, appliances and toys. Capilene CT 80A is a clarified and antistatic-modified PP grade with a melt flow rate (MFR) of 25.

Carmel Olefins continues to work closely with Milliken, whose K show theme is “Making Polypropylene Clearer, Better, Faster. Together”. Millad NX 8000 allows processors using the new PP resin to reduce molding temperatures compared to resins made with previous-generation clarifiers. This helps converters to lower energy consumption, shorten cycle times and boost productivity.
