Press maker Victor Taichung to produce clear cups at K 2016 using INEOS polypropylene clarified with Milliken’s Millad® NX™ 8000

Milliken & Co. is partnering with Victor Taichung and INEOS at the K fair in Düsseldorf to showcase the benefits of using PP modified with Milliken’s clarifier, which improves resin clarity & transparency, while lowering energy use & enabling faster injection molding cycle times.

Polypropylene cups made by Victor Taichung at K 2016On Booth B38 in Hall 13 at the upcoming K fair, Taiwan’s Victor Taichung Machinery Works Co. Ltd. will showcase its new VM-280E injection press by molding clear cups in a four-cavity mold using INEOS’ 100-CC60 grade of PP. The machine maker plans to process some 1,300 kg of the material during the Oct. 19-26 trade show. The production cell also will use an in-mold labeling automation system supplied by Jet Engine Automation Co. Ltd.

Milliken (Booth A27, Hall 6) partnered with Victor Taichung at the K 2013, and also has a long-standing relationship with Swiss resin supplier INEOS — all of which ties in perfectly to Milliken’s K show theme of “Making Polypropylene Clearer, Better, Faster. Together”.

Victor Taichung developed its VM-280E press last year specifically to manufacture thin-walled parts. It features a robust, heavy-duty clamp system and a single-piston injection unit with closed-loop servo valve for short cycle times and high-speed injection.

INEOS, meanwhile, says its 100-CC60 grade offers a combination of high stiffness, very good flowability and moldability, and high clarity, making it ideal for such products as highly transparent, thin-wall injection molded packaging trays, buckets and cups or storage boxes.

Using the Milliken clarifier in PP resin offers additional benefits to the user. Millad NX 8000 allows processors to reduce molding temperatures compared to resins made with previous-generation clarifiers. This helps converters to better meet sustainability goals by reducing energy consumption and shortening cycle times. The lower molding temperature also shortens the cooling time of the part prior to ejection from the mold, further speeding production and boosting productivity.
