Milliken at European Thermoforming Conference
The Society of Plastic Engineers is hosting its 10th European Thermoforming Conference in Barcelona this week, with presenters sharing on the past, present, and future of thermoforming technology under the theme “Evolution – Thermoforming – Destination.” Milliken representatives are on site today and tomorrow to share how Milliken’s clarifying additives can bring property improvements to thermoformed parts and packaging.
Thanks to Milliken’s Millad® NX™ 8000, UltraClear PP is becoming the new standard in clear food packaging, especially in thermoformed applications such as cups, trays, and clamshells. Millad® NX™ 8000 changes the optical properties of polypropylene, resulting in fully transparent and extremely lightweight packaging with no loss of performance or durability.
Compared to traditional materials like polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyrene (PS), UltraClear PP’s low density and low weight provides the opportunity for significant energy savings with less product required to produce the same number of pieces.
In side-by-side comparisions of deli cups made from UltraClear PP and PET, UltraClear PP required 5% less plastic and emitted 43% less greenhouse gases than PET. Comparisons of clamshells and blister packaging yielded similar results.
Our team would welcome the opportunity to share these advantages with you. If you’re attending the SPE European Thermoforming Conference this week, be sure to stop by the Milliken & Company table to learn more about thermoforming applications for UltraClear PP with Millad® NX™ 8000, or contact us.
