Shed some pounds with NX UltraClear PP
Everybody likes to lose some weight. When it comes to your food packaging, slimming down brings added benefits to brand owners, such as a lower carbon footprint, improved sustainability and greater output per kg.
Polypropylene clarified with Milliken’s Millad® NX™ 8000 produces a resin known as NX™ UltraClear PP. Its most obvious impact is the superb clarity and transparency that makes the undesirable, milky appearance of using PP in such applications a thing of the past.
But the lower density of this material also has huge implications. NX™ UltraClear PP is 18% lighter than PET. Comparative tests showed that while 1 kg of PET yielded 57 thermoformed, clear food trays, the same amount of UltraClear PP produced 70 trays. This greater yield translates into lower per-unit production costs. Packages thermoformed from NX™ UltraClear PP offer the additional benefit of easy-seal/easy-peel, mono-material lidding.
PP requires significantly lower energy inputs than competitive materials during production of the granulate, and has high energy recovery values – all of which contribute to an overall lower carbon footprint.
