Milliken & partners to showcase UltraClear PP containers & novel IML lids

Milliken is partnering at the K 2016 trade fair with a pair of Belgian firms — injection molder Decapac and IML specialist Verstraete In mould labels — to demonstrate a pair of food-packaging innovations.

Milliken is keen to showcase the clear advantages of molding products with polypropylene made fully transparent through the use of its Millad® NX™ 8000 clarifier. The resulting material — known as NX™ UltraClear PP — allows polypropylene to replace resins such as PET and polystyrene in a wide range of packaging applications.

IML_Food_Packaging_web.jpgDecapac, the fastest-growing branch of Deca Packaging Group, has produced thin-walled injection molded containers in UltraClear PP, with lids featuring a DoubleSided IML label that the three partners jointly developed. Verstraete will be displaying these products on its booth (Hall 5, B37) at the Düsseldorf show. This novel lid, which is printed on both sides, offers food producers twice the printing space of a traditional IML label, and creates a variety of marketing possibilities on the back of the label.

Milliken, meanwhile, is occupying Booth A27 in Hall 6 at the fair, and will focus on its theme of “Making polypropylene clearer, better, faster. Together”. The thin-walled container being displayed on Verstraete’s booth will show the glass-like clarity of UltraClear PP, which also offers the advantages of lower processing temperatures and therefore faster and more sustainable injection molding.
