Milliken Wins R&D 100 Awards

Milliken & Company has won top honors at this year’s R&D 100 Awards held November 3–4 in Oxon Hill, Maryland. This year’s distinguished awards panel selected four of Milliken’s technologies as finalists—a superior accomplishment for any company.

The R&D 100 Awards is in its 54th year of honoring elite technology innovation. Previous winners have been the flashcube (1964), the FAX machine (1975), and the QR Code (2002). Competition for the awards is steep, with hundreds of innovations vying for recognition. Long-standing history and quality entries have earned prestigious R&D 100 Awards the title of the “Oscars of Invention.”

Finalists were Milliken SiVance’s XLED LED Encapsulant, a more efficient, higher-power-density LED; Millicap Reinforcement Tape, a strengthening technology for rubber; Milliguard AOX-1, an antioxidant for polyurethane; and Hyperform HPN 210M, a nucleating agent for injection molding.

Milliken Chemical proudly announces that two of its four entries for the R&D 100 Awards were selected as winners for 2015: Milliguard® AOX-1 and Hyperform® HPN 210M.

Milliguard AOX-1 was designed to help the automobile industry meet increasingly rigorous vehicle indoor air quality standards. AOX-1 contributes negligible volatile organic compound (VOC) and outgassing condensation (FOG) content in emissions testing. The antioxidant aids in stabilizing free radicals, which can degrade polyurethane foam. The technology gives polyol producers and foam manufacturers a powerful tool for interior vehicle components such as seats, door trim, carpet, instrument panels, headliners, and consoles.

Hyperform_41371981.jpgHyperform HPN 210M is a groundbreaking nucleating agent for injection molded high-density polyethylene (HDPE) applications. This technology improves the mechanical performance of HDPE to levels approaching those of polypropylene (PP) impact copolymers. The Hyperform HPN 210M nucleator gives molders new processing options for packaging and material handling applications The new additive specifically targets material handling applications such as waste containers, totes, crates. and pallets.
