At K 2016, GDK to extrusion blow mold sports drink bottles using polypropylene clarified with Millad® NX™ 8000

1a_GDK_spol__s_r_o___2_Layer_Sports_Drink_Bottle_.jpgAt the K show in Düsseldorf, Czech machinery producer GDK spol. s.r.o. and MOL GROUP are collaborating with specialty chemicals supplier Milliken & Company to demonstrate the possibilities of extrusion blow molding a stylish, clear sports drink bottle using the MOL GROUP’s polypropylene clarified with Milliken’s Millad NX 8000

While offering a wide range of pneumatic and servo-electric-drive blow molding machines capable of making bottles with volumes ranging from 5 ml to 30 liters, GDK at the show (Booth C04/Hall 14), will run its GM 751 E model machine. This single-station, electric blow molder offers a compact footprint, low energy consumption, 30 kN clamping force and can produce bottle volumes up to 1.5 liters.

GDK_Machine.jpgAt K 2016, GDK will be molding a sports bottle from TIPPLEN R 660 polypropylene clarified with Milliken’s Millad NX 8000. The resin — made by MOL Group — is an extrusion grade random copolymer PP that is suitable for food contact. It is formulated with a new-generation clarifying agent to yield excellent optical properties such as transparency and gloss.

In blow molding, the high clarity of the resulting material — known in the market as NX UltraClear PP — makes it an attractive alternative for PC in baby bottles and for PET in personal-care and detergent bottles. NX UltraClear PP also makes it is possible to integrate handles, soft-touch and create complex, eye-catching designs in a blow-molded bottle that is also easier and faster to empty than other solutions.

Milliken (Booth A27/Hall 6) will focus at the show on how its technology-leading clarifiers and nucleators can improve polypropylene, with the core themes of Making PP Clearer; Making PP Better; Making PP Faster.
