SiVance® C1008 Curative
SiVance® C1008 Curative is brought to you by SiVance, LLC a subsidiary of Milliken & Company
SiVance® C1008 Curative improves the durable flexibility of epoxy polysiloxane topcoats
Commercial epoxy polysiloxane coatings eliminate the need for a polyurethane topcoat in traditional 3-layer exterior coatings. The major drawback to these epoxy polysiloxanes is brittleness, especially after ageing.
SiVance has developed a new silicone curative that can be formulated into existing epoxy polysiloxanes to provide the needed durable flexibility without sacrificing weatherability.
This new product is called SiVance® C1008 Curative and is available in commercial quantities. The product is currently registered under TSCA and REACH, with other global approvals in progress.
Coatings subjected to a 1/2 inch mandrel bend test after aging. Sample A: commercial epoxy polysiloxane shows cracking and delamination after only 1 week aging. Sample B: The same commercial epoxy polysiloxane modified with SiVance® C1008 Curative passes the bend test after aging for 1 year.
SiVance® C1008 Curative Product Information
C1008 is a modified polysiloxane that is amino terminated.
C1008 may be formulated into epoxy systems to improve properties such as flexibility, reverse impact, hydrophobicity, hydrothermal stability, and thermal stability. This product can be used as the sole curative or in combination with other amines.
C1008 utilizes a proprietary structure that provides enhanced compatibility in epoxy systems. The curative is fully miscible with hydrogenated bisphenol-A epoxy resins. Compatibilization of C1008 in other epoxy resins is possible with the use of solvents (MEK, xylenes, etc.) or reactive diluents.
Formulations with C1008 may be cured in the same manner as other amine-epoxy systems. Ambient cure is possible, but elevated temperatures are recommended (70C/158F; 4h). The cure rate can be increased using common accelerators for amine-epoxies, such as benzyl alcohol and imidazole.
