New Silicone Curative Improves the Durable Flexibility of Epoxy Polysiloxane Topcoats
Spartanburg, S.C. – SiVance, LLC, a subsidiary of Milliken & Company, today unveiled SiVance® SiVance® C1008 Curative, a new silicone curative that significantly improves the durable flexibility of epoxy polysiloxane protective topcoats in marine and infrastructure applications, without sacrificing weatherability. The development of this new curative technology solves a major challenge common to epoxy polysiloxanes: brittleness and cracking that can develop over time as the coating cures.
“Our new SiVance® C1008 Curative is a much-needed solution for increasing the performance and toughness of protective epoxy polysiloxane topcoats used in highly corrosive environments,” said Jeff Jones, business development director, SiVance LLC. “Regular maintenance on marine applications and infrastructures can be very time consuming and costly, but protective coatings made with SiVance’s SiVance® C1008 Curative help to combat this challenge. This new technology is yet another example of our company’s commitment to proactively addressing its customers’ needs.”
In addition to demanding marine topcoat applications where resistance to sea water, ultraviolet light and chemicals is critical, SiVance’s new SiVance® C1008 Curative technology is designed for coatings for piping, bridges, wind turbines, offshore platforms, tank exteriors, structural steel and heavy equipment. It utilizes a proprietary molecular structure that provides enhanced compatibility in epoxy systems. The product is fully miscible with hydrogenated bisphenol-A epoxy resins. Compatibilization of SiVance® C1008 Curative in other epoxy resins is possible with the use of solvents (methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), xylenes, etc.) or reactive diluents.
The new SiVance® C1008 Curative is available globally in commercial quantities and is currently registered under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation, with other global approvals in progress.
